Three Dimension of Global Media

Two developments in April drew attention once again to the global media activities in Turkey. First, on April 15, the UK-based The Indepentent began its Turkish publication as an internet newspaper. Then, on April 29, four major government agencies of the global media formed a common platform and entered the sector through the YouTube channel. The platform, which was promoted as “+90“, includes German Deutsche Welle (DW), British BBC, French broadcasting company France24 and US Voice of America.

Previously, combining the power of the media in a way not seen in four global actors to begin broadcasting in Turkey will be discussed more in the future. But when we look at the relationship of journalism global broadcast market in Turkey with foreign media groups it can be examined in three contexts. The first is the cooperation of the globally recognized brands with the purchase of the name right. The best example of this is CNN TÜRK. The group, which acquired the title of CNN television in the USA in October 1999, continues its broadcasting policy only with recommendations on basic broadcasting principles. There is no direct capital ownership.
