Leaders of Germany, France and China would discuss multilateralism, trade and international challenges during their meeting in Paris next week, Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday.
Speaking at a news conference in Brussels, Merkel said Tuesday’s meeting would be a good opportunity to discuss issues of common interest.
“This is all about multilateral challenges that we want to discuss together with the Chinese President [Xi Jinping]. And I think it is going to be a good meeting,” she said.
Merkel said their intention was not to establish a new format of talks between EU’s two major powers and China, and underlined that EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker would also join their meeting.
China’s Jinping has began on Friday his six-day visit to Europe, including Italy, Monaco and France.
