Football: Italy’s Inter sign defender Godin on free

Italy’s top-tier Serie A football club Inter Milan confirmed Monday signing Diego Godin on free transfer.

The Italian giant welcomed former Atletico Madrid defender with a video on Twitter.

The contract will run through June 30, 2020.

The-33-year old defender announced his departure from Spanish club in May.

Godin made 389 appearances and scored 27 goals in nine years with Atletico Madrid.

In the last game of the 2013-2014 season in the Spanish top league La Liga, Godin’s header secured the league title against Barcelona, bringing the trophy to Madrid team for the first time since 1996.

Godin scored eight goals in 131 international games with Uruguay international team.

He also lifted the Copa America in 2011.
