The press seems to think it’s ironic that I, born of great privilege, think people want to work for what they are given. As if being Donald Trump’s daughter isn’t the hardest job in the world.’
That’s Ivanka Trump firing off what the Washington Post described as a “cringey” joke at Saturday night’s Gridiron dinner, a fancy annual gathering of Washington, D.C.’s top journalists and government types.
Donald Trump, unlike last year, did not attend this year’s festivities, so his daughter, and White House adviser, took the stage in front of the 700 or so in attendance, which included the likes of Kellyanne Conway, press secretary Sarah Sanders and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, to name just a few.
“When my father asked me just this afternoon to represent him tonight — no, this isn’t a joke — to represent him tonight, I didn’t have time to write any jokes,” Ivanka said, as she took aim at a favorite target of the right. “I feared that the funniest thing I could do was read you excerpts from the Green New Deal.”
This isn’t the first time Ivanka has lashed out at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s proposal to boost the economy and slash emissions.
“I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something,” Ivanka said in a recent Fox News interview. “This idea of a guaranteed minimum is not something most people want.”
